The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of New Zealand is proud to have received Toitū carbonreduce certification.
As an organisation, including the Aviation Security Service, we’ve just started measuring our carbon emissions. Being certified shows we’re committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2025, achieving our operational emissions reduction target of 42% by 2030, and helping to reduce our operating costs.
Over the past few months, we’ve done all our pre-flight checks and taxied to the start of the runway. This certification is our take-off. The real exciting work begins now as we set out on our journey.
Toitū Envirocare certification programmes help workplaces become more sustainable, provide science-based tools backed by evidence to show measurable progress, and have credible reporting aligned to international best practice. This includes having our data audited and verified by a third-party, to meet our annual Government Carbon Neutral Government Programme obligations.
Being certified means we’re measuring, analysing, and publicly reporting on our emissions data each year. We have set science-based emissions reduction targets according to ISO standards 14064-1:2018 and have a plan to get there. It also means we’re proactively contributing to New Zealand’s legislated target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
“It’s an exciting time for the CAA. We’re already taking a proactive approach to reduce our emissions which helps to drive our operating costs down by transitioning our fleet to low and zero emissions vehicles and upgrading our lighting systems. We’re now identifying other opportunities to reduce operational cost and emissions, and increase efficiencies,” says the CAA’s Sustainability Advisor Michelle Eathorne.
