All Cessna 172N aircraft and Lycoming O-320-H2AD engines.
The purpose of this notification is to alert aircraft owners, operators, maintenance organisations and parts suppliers of suspected unapproved parts which have been sold without FAA production approval.
The FAA has issued Unapproved Parts Notification (UPN) No 2012-20120104008, dated 27 July, 2012 to advise that Superior Air Parts crankshaft bearings P/N SL14105A M03 were sold without FAA production approval.
The CAA recommends that all aircraft owners, operators, maintenance organisations and parts suppliers review FAA UPN No 2012-20120104008, dated 27 July 2012, and review the aircraft records and parts held as spares for suspected unapproved parts.

If any suspect parts are found installed on the aircraft, replace with an approved part before further flight. If suspect parts are found in stock, it is recommended that the unapproved parts are segregated to prevent inadvertent installation.
This CAN is prompted by the issue of CASA Airworthiness Bulletin 01-023 issue 1, dated 4 September 2012 and FAA UPN No 2012-20120104008, dated 27 July 2012.

If a suspected unapproved part is found, complete a CA005D defect report and submit to the CAA at ca005@caa.govt.nz
