All operators and maintainers of single reciprocating engine Cessna 200 series aircraft with 15 years or more TIS since date of manufacture.
This Continuing Airworthiness Notice (CAN) is issued to highlight the defects found in horizontal stabilisers of overseas Cessna 200 series aircraft which typically have more than 9500 hours TTIS.
The CAA is aware that operators/maintainers may not find potential critical defects in the aircraft primary structure if they are not following the repetitive inspection requirements specified in the Cessna Airworthiness Programme.
The CAA recommends that operators/maintainers of single reciprocating engine Cessna 200 series aircraft review the Cessna Airworthiness Programme and determine that the repetitive primary structure inspections specified by Cessna are included in the aircraft maintenance programme/schedule.
For further information of typical defects found in horizontal stabilisers of affected aircraft, a copy of CASA AWB No. 55-001 issue 2 dated 19 September 2011 can be obtained from: http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dll?WCMS:STANDARD::pc=PC_90516(external link)
