These organisations have been assessed by CAANZ and approved to provide type ratings under their CAANZ certificate or state NAA approval and are subject to periodic CAANZ oversight of the simulator and/or training programme. CAANZ oversight may be required for approval of the rating or training programmes undertaken.
Periodic oversight is required at least every five years. Prior to carrying out training, the pilot or organisation should contact CAANZ.
Airlines or pilots wanting to obtain type ratings from organisations not listed below or requiring periodic CAANZ oversight as above, will need to pay for us to assess that organisation. That assessment needs to take place before the type rating is carried out.

When you obtain a single pilot aircraft type rating, your instructor will complete one of the forms below.
They will also enter the new rating in your pilot logbook.

Make sure the signed form is emailed to us at pft.admin@caa.govt.nz or posted to PO Box 3555, Wellington 6140. It’s the evidence you’ve gained your type rating. It will be noted on your record in our database.
If you ever upgrade your licence, or you get a new ‘prime rating’ (e.g. an instrument rating), complete the form CAA 24061/04 Application for amendment to a pilot licence [PDF 290 KB] and email to us at lic.applications@caa.govt.nz. The new rating will be recorded free of charge. Please note, if you require type ratings added to your licence separately from an upgrade, there is a fee. See fees, charges and levies.
